Parkour through of art today – Queer

-QUEER (theory). Starting from the premise that sexuality is not a simple natural fact but a social construction, this field of studies, the heir of feminism, has developed into a field of research and activism on the culture of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transsexuals and intersexuals. The ‘queer’ theory as seen from various specialised fields -history, critique, literature, sociology, philosophy, art, cultural studies, psychoanalysis- places the issues of sexuality into a main category through which other social, political and cultural phenomena must be understood, a hypothesis which observes and explores the processes of power through which the sexual identity of modern societies is built. There is no essential or biological sexuality, nor are the female and male characters presented beyond the borders of the processes of socialization.

Sexuality is a significant activity which is constantly being negotiated and implies experiences and alternative lifestyles as well as repression or marginalisation according to the dominating roles. The critical contributions by Judith Butler, Teresa de Laurentis, Juan Vicente Aliaga or Beatriz Preciado, among others, have provided a great boost for this field of studies. Several artists explore these sexual areas by calling for the potential of each person to build his or her sexual identity that is devoid of prejudice as a way to approach new situations of poetry: regulating sexual employment, another kind of pornography, new feminism, free access to hormones, the end of hetero-centrism in schools, the problem of AIDS, etc.

Photographer, activist and performer Del Lagrace Volcano questions, undoes and reformulates in her works and body the binary sexual model, calling herself an abolitionist of gender and militant of intersexual activism. With an anatomy and mentality which does not fit masculine or feminine standards, she decides to take testosterone and begin to grow a beard to feel the privileges of a masculine part in transition towards a new gender designed as intersexual. As an artist she stages this political event to destabilise the models, regarding all that is deemed to be irrefutable about sex or gender as subversion against the powers and orthodox regimes that govern us.

PARKOUR (FREERUNNING). A DICTIONARY OF ART TODAY

Like an urban parkour circuit among words, concepts, theories and keys to art, this dictionary does not follow the established routes but drifts through today’s art leaping between the semantic topography that defines and conceptualizes art productions. The journey is free-flowing, with no rules or hazards. It is based on one’s own trust as a reader.

Simplicity contrasted with complexity. This is what motivates the dictionary-circuit through the concepts of art today, along these obstacles of words and expressions that surround the world of art. Leaping and moving forward.

It is only something a bit different, a skilful stimulating journey through the linguistic and urban circuits of art in our days.

A number of obstacles to throw out and take on our journey:

Abject / SOCIAL ZOMBIE-IZATION / APPROPRIATION / IRONY / THEATRE OF THE ABSURD / VISUAL ANTHROPOLOGY / kitsch / AXIOM / URBAN INTERVENTION / ARCHETYPE / BIO-POLITICS / CHARGE / BRAND / ARCHITECTURE FOR AN EVENT / RELATIONAL AESTHETICS / CRITIQUE OF REPRESENTATION / AUTHORSHIP / FICTIONAL DOCUMENTARY / DEATH OF THE AUTHOR / POST-PORN / DRILL / POST-MODERNITY / REAL / RHIZOME / CROWD / ICON / NET · ART ...
